Fixed Means


This section describes IRCOS fixed radio monitoring equipment. The fixed means is designed for automated radio monitoring including search, emitter detection, direction finding, localization and radio signal measurement.


These means uses standardized units with small weight and dimensions that are also applicable for mobile equipment. The fixed direction finding means includes digital radio receivers or radio signal conversion units integrated with antenna systems. This feature enables high sensitivity and wide dynamic range, eliminates antenna effects and allows the use of flexible light-gauge lead-in cables up to 100 m long.


High performance parameters of the fixed means including the wide electromagnetic field coverage and DF accuracy are achieved through antennae and mast structures on the one hand and increase in height of receiving antennae on the other hand.


Specified direction finder parameter figures (root mean square error of bearing and sensitivity of field bearing) are determined by methods corresponding to standard test procedures considered in recommendations ITU-R SM.2060 and SM.2096, ITU Handbook “Spectrum Monitoring”, Geneva, 2011, and in ITU-R SM.2125 report. For each direction finder, standard sensitivity is additionally specified being determined as its mean value in the specified frequency range for a group of products.


Fixed means is controlled remotely by wire or wireless channels, which allows using this in the automated radio monitoring system.


All means comprising fixed stations can have unattended design. In that case equipment is inside temperature controlled and moisture protected boxes and its placement does not require service premises. All equipment can be installed outdoors, e.g. on rooftop of building.


Fixed means has an integrated diagnostics system of state and operation parameters of modules and units. Diagnostics results are transmitted on the basis of SNMP protocol.

Key features of fixed means:

  • Technical and metrological parameters completely comply with International Telecommunication Union recommendations
  • Due to high functionality of stations and their specifications they may be used by both the Ministry of Communications and security agencies
  • Stations have option of unattended design and alarm sensors (impact, inclination and opening sensors)
  • Equipment of stations has Built-In Test Equipment (BITE)
  • The stations can be controlled over the main and standby data communication channels including radio channels
  • Automatic direction finders based on ARGAMAK PLUS DRRU series operate with simultaneous bandwidth up to 24 MHz, operating range 1.5 to 8000 MHz, they feature high performance (more than 100 bearings/s) and provide multi-channel direction finding at the rate up to 2500 MHz/s;
  • The digital receiver of direction finders is built into the antenna system (it provides accuracy, high sensitivity, wide dynamic range and no antenna effect), direction finder antenna system weighs about 40 kg
  • Fixed measuring equipment is based on digital ARGAMAK-IS Radio Receiver, has frequency range from 9 kHz to 8000 MHz (up to 18 GHz with optional equipment), and simultaneous bandwidth up to 22 MHz
  • Digital radio receivers of fixed means allow processing of input signals in real-time: speed of the panoramic spectrum analysis is up to 20 GHz/sec with spectrum discreteness of 6.25 kHz.
  • To prevent digital path overloading of the equipment with simultaneous bandwidth more then 20 MHz (ARCHA-INM, ARTIKUL-S, ARGAMAK-IS, ARGAMAK-CS, ARGAMAK-RS) in complicated electromagnetic environment, digital radio receiver includes additional analogue radio receiving path with 500 kHz bandwidth.
  • Because of its small dimensions and accordingly small losses and better inductive coordination, DRR of ARGAMAK-IS can be integrated with antenna system, providing for high sensitivity and accuracy of measurements. With additional coherent receiving channel it can be a base for correlative interferometer direction finder.
  • ARGAMAK-IS digital radio receiver allows all required types of measurements, including measurements of electromagnetic field (EMF) strength, frequency and bandwidth of radio emission, decoding and analysis of service information of digital networks of communication and data transmission GSM, UMTS, CDMA, TETRA, LTE, DECT, Wi-Fi, APCO P25, DMR, and DVB-T/H/T2 digital TV signals
  • "Hybrid" method is implemented for localization of radio emission, where calculation of location is made on the basis of information complexing: bearings received from direction finders, time of receipt, and levels of radio signals at measurement points.
